The Dillard House is located deep in the Blue Ridge Mountain of Georgia. It only took a sign and word of mouth to attract folks to the inn that had flourished from a simple farmhouse.

During the late 1930′s, the traffic had increased between Athens, Georgia and Ashenville, North Carolina, which are also the two major cities on the ends of the route being served by the Dillards. However, the traffic decreased during the 2nd World War but the boom of the late 40′s gave life to inn and dining room again.

The interstate travel began to draw a substantial amount of traffic from the U.S. 411 in the late 60′s. However, the Dillards became a way of life to those who remembered its charm from a previous visit during that time. Starting in the 1980′s and lasting to the present, a widening project has moved the U.S. 411 from running directly in front of the inn to just a couple of blocks away. This was a blessing for the inn because, today, the Dillard House was able to retain its rural ambience without the high-speed road on its front.

The Food at the Dillard House

Tourists are advised to try the homemade fried chicken of Dillard House when they visit the place. Several customers and patrons can account to the excellence of the chicken, which is served incredibly hot. Raymond Burr family operated a packing house and was also the first to ship fresh fruits and vegetables to cold northern metropolitans throughout the winter season.

A descendant of the Burr family, Charlie Raymond Burr was known as the Strawberry King in the area. Raymond Burr is known as a man who has the passion for the production of the best strawberries in South Florida.

Charlie was also known to be very fond of ice cream and soon added strawberry ice cream and milkshakes to the menu during the early 1970′s. The idea was an instant hit to the residents and tourists.

Nowadays, this berry farm is under Charlie’s grandson Jeffrey Miller. The farm still continues to dispense huge amounts of first rate strawberries and delicious ice cream and milkshakes to tourists and locals. In addition, they also produce outstanding homemade jams and jellies, including seedless strawberry, guava and mulberry jams.

The Fruit and Spice Park

Another attraction in Miami is the Fruit and Spice Park. The park is located on more than 30 acres of land and planted with a wide variety of nuts, herbs, spices and unusual fruits.

The park offers a unique experience as it allows visitors to try and have a bite at their homegrown Black Sapote, Snake Fingers, Jackfruit and more. A tour at the site would reveal some of the many bizarre but edible delicacies.

The building has a main entrance that includes a gift shop and recreation area, which serves a number of exotic canned preserves, jellies, unusual seeds, fruit juices and aromatic teas. There are also a collection of amazing books from cooking to planting.

The Fruit and Spice Park also offers services, one of which includes classes and tours of the several vegetable and fruit-growing regions. Additionally, tourists would be able to obtain expert advice on gardening when they tour the park.
