School break is coming up and you and your friends are eager to travel to New England. If you’re a little worried how long and far your remaining allowance could take you, here are a couple of tips to make your vacation last as long as possible without getting anyone in debt.

New England Attractions You Can Enjoy for Free

You only need your camera – and not your wallet – when you drop by these places.

Yale University

You may have no plans of switching colleges or universities, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the various beautiful attractions offered in this famous Connecticut institution. Music lovers can look forward to a spectacular performance from the Yale School of Music; most of its almost 300 concerts don’t charge admissions. Art lovers, on the other hand, can view the various artworks and exhibits at the Yale Center for British Art and Yale Art Gallery. Lastly, a guided tour – also for free – of the various historical landmarks in the school campus is always on the offing.

Yankee Candle, Massachusetts

It may be near impossible to resist purchasing a candle or two once you get to the flagship store of the popular candle maker, but that’s probably the only price you have to pay when you get to this South Deerfield factory.

Exploring the labyrinth-like arrangement of showrooms in the Yankee Candle can take up a delightful amount of hours, but every single room will prove to be worth your time.

Cliff Walk, Rhode Island

Newport has long been famous for its breathtaking views of the ocean and its queue of legendary mansions. If you’re looking for something free but fun to do, you can do a lot worse than enjoying these sights while trekking the 3.5 mile length of Cliff Walk.

Affordable New England Accommodations

Now, if it’s a cheap place for you and your friends to sleep in that worries you, here are several affordable but quite satisfactory bed and breakfasts to solve your dilemma.

1886 House, Massachusetts

You’re going to share a bathroom, true, but this is easily offset by an air-conditioned room – at least the one in the 2nd floor – good for two and with an antique iron bed for the low price of $95. As things stand, there’s not that much reason to complain, is there?

Abbey’s Lantern Hill Inn, Connecticut

Go on weekends with your friends and you pay $99 for a full-bed room with its own bath. But if you go on weekdays, you get the room for just $79. The proximity of various Mystic area attractions and Foxwoods Casino is an added bonus.

Old Riverton Inn, Connecticut

Whisk you and your friends to the past at Old Riverton Inn. It used to be a stagecoach stop for those traveling to and fro Albany and Hartford and for $99, you get a double-bed room and full breakfast.

Silver Maple Lodge and Cottages, Vermont

Acquaint yourself with the charming rustic country life, Vermont style, when you’re in Silver Maple Lodge. For rates below $100, you could get a fireplace-heated cottage room or a room in the farmhouse with your own bath.

The Knoll, Massachusetts

This small Northampton B&B doesn’t just come cheap with $85 rooms, but it’s also conveniently in proximity to shops, colleges, and other notable establishments in the area.
