Following are some of the important things associated with Christmas holiday traditions.

The Birth Of Jesus Christ

Of course, the true meaning of the Christmas celebrations lies in the birth of Jesus Christ. In the earlier days, there was no fixed day to celebrate the occasion. As per the most accepted legend, it all started in the fifth century when during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine, people started celebrating this occasion on a fixed day – 25th of December.

Christmas Cards

The Christmas cards have also been a great part of the Christmas holiday traditions. These cards were first introduced in the year 1843 when Sir Henry Cole first got these cards printed in England. Before that, people used to write letters as a Christmas greeting to their loved ones who lived far from them.

Christmas Gifts

There are reasons why giving and receiving Christmas gifts have been one of the most popular holiday traditions. The reason lies in the story of Jesus receiving gifts by the three wise men. The gifts included Myrrh, Gold, and Frankincense. Frankincense was a perfume that the Jews used in their worship prayer. When the three wise men gave this as a gift to Jesus, it was supposed to carry the message that now people should worship Jesus. The second gift was gold that symbolizes kingship and wealth. By giving this as a gift to Jesus, the wise men treated Jesus as the King of the kings. Myrrh was again a perfume that people of that time used on dead bodies so that they would hide the foul odor. By giving Myrrh as a gift to Jesus, the wise men wanted to say that Jesus would suffer severely and die soon.

Christmas Carols

The Christmas carols have also been one of the most popular holiday traditions. The history of these songs also dates back to hundreds of years ago. In the earlier times, a carol used to be a religious hymn and was sung solely by the priests and bishops in church. However, the last few decades have seen a lot of developments in the singing of carols. Musicians have done lots of experiment with their lyrics, and the fine new tunes of these lovely carols are highly popular now. Now, the Christmas carols are not only sung in churches, but there are also numerous music bands that play these songs during the Christmas celebrations.

Overall, the Christmas holiday traditions a rich history.
