The city of Winnipeg, considered as the gateway to Western Canada, lies in the junction of the Assiniboine and Red Rivers in Manitoba. Being the main meeting point for tourists and explorers through the Western Great Lakes region, Winnipeg has always been attracting many Americans to go hunting and fishing in the camps of Northern Manitoba.

At present, Winnipeg is gaining reputation and prominence as many travelers take pleasure from visiting this Canadian city. Not only known for being one of the most family-friendly cities in Canada because it offers plenty of things to do that gratify the whole family, Winnipeg also holds some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country.

The Manitoba Museum and Planetarium

Located at 190 Rupert Avenue, the Manitoba Museum is placed on your right as you head north on Main Street. What is great about this museum is that it provides loads of mental stimulus and motivation to virtually any age bracket. As a natural history museum and an observatory or planetarium as well, it offers an exclusive journey through the entire province of Manitoba, the globe, and the universe.

Moreover, it is Manitoba’s biggest heritage center which showcases both human and natural heritage subjects. The Urban Gallery represents the life of people in Winnipeg during the 1920′s and is only one among the several other exhibits and displays inside the museum. Visitors as well as the local population can enjoy the multi-purpose audio-visual quality of the Planetarium Theater that provides excellent and entertaining programs on astronomy. Get the chance to explore the night sky as observed from any place on Earth, or take a journey into space by visiting the stars, planets, and anything beyond.

The Manitoba Legislative Building

Practically anyone can visit and explore the Manitoba Legislative Building with tour guides available each hour from July 1 to the first weekend of September. This government building is thought to be designed after the temple of King Solomon in Jerusalem. In fact, a book called the Hermetic Code, which attempts to discover the hidden secrets behind the mysterious design of the edifice, has been recently published.

The moment you enter don’t forget to take a glance at the Pool of the Black Star and the Grand Staircase which is lined with two huge Bison sculptures. The outside contains landscaped sceneries and numerous classical elements so keep in mind to explore it as well. The Golden Boy standing proudly on top of the building’s colossal domed roof is a very unique mark that you wouldn’t want to miss. Similar to the Greek or Roman figure of Hermes, the Golden Boy holds in his arms one of the major prairie crops in Manitoba which is wheat.

Assiniboine Park and Zoo

A beautiful green spot at the center of Winnipeg, the Assiniboine Park attracts a crowd of visitors especially on a bright sunny day. You can find a playground and eatery on the area and a gift shop as well which is positioned at the entrance or exit of the zoo. The Zoo offers you a horde of animals such as polar bears, bison, lions, snow leopards and many more.

If you’re interested, you can take a ride on a mini train which travels around the park. Or if you want some physical action, bring out your roller blades, Frisbee, or soccer ball and have fun in the vast green playing field. A picnic with the family and the abundant vibrant flowers around you is also a wonderful idea. Visit the English Garden and the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden if you still have time.
