If you’re the type of person who likes to spend a weekend vacation away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, if you’re interested in learning different cultural traditions, if you’re an art lover or just simply the type who craves to uncover the greatest mysteries in the science fiction archives, then the state of New Mexico is the perfect place for you!

New Mexico is located in the Southwestern part of the United States. It is considered as the “Land of Enchantment” because of its scenic and picturesque towns, charismatic natural wonders and a diverse heritage of Hispanic, Indian and Anglo cultures that makes a vacation both interesting and exciting.

A visit to the state’s countryside

Located in the north east part of the state is the quaint city of Las Vegas, but this Las Vegas is the exact opposite of the Las Vegas that you’ll find in the state of Nevada. It is a captivating small town, with clean countryside air and a wide range of fun outdoor activities to offer. Some of these include hunting, rafting, fishing, climbing, hiking and wildlife observation.

During the winter season, you can enjoy some winter recreational activities such as snowboarding and skiing, all set against the spectacular setting of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. And over the McAllister Lake, you can even have the chance of seeing eagles, which is a wonderful sight that should not be missed by vacationers planning to go in the area.

The city of Taos is also a great place to savor the magnificent beauty of the countryside. You can visit the Red River Ski Area or the Taos Valley Ski Resort during the winter season and have a great skiing adventure. During summertime, it is a great place to do horseback riding, golfing, mountain biking and llama trekking, which is a local pastime activity.

A haven for the lover of arts and music

If you’re not interested in any outdoor activities and like to soak up with state’s arts, then the capital city of Santa Fe has something special to offer. It is the home of more than 300 art galleries and museums exhibiting both international and local art, truly a divine city for the lover of arts.

The city also offers plenty of entertaining activities during the night which includes Pueblo dances equipped with flamenco dancers and mariachi players, open air markets, gallery openings, and concerts featuring both contemporary and classical music such as jazz and blues.

Understanding its diverse culture

Another fascinating and interesting place to visit in the state of New Mexico is the city of Taos, which is situated north of Santa Fe. It is the city depicting the multicultural nature of the state. It is where you can see a Spanish village, an artist’s colony, an Indian pueblo and an alpine resort all in one city.

It is the home of approximately 150 Pueblo Indians. The ancestors of these Indians were the residents of the valley long before the New World was discovered. There buildings were erected thousands of years ago. Interestingly, the rituals and customs of these people are preserved up to the present and vacationers can even purchase some of there crafts like pottery, curios and jewelry, which were created by local craftsmen.

Unravel the mysteries

In the northwestern part of the state is the entrance to the Navajo Nation, which is the most widespread Indian reservation in the United States. You can witness a multitude of fascinating landmarks within the area that are closely tied with some Native American folklore.

In the Chaco Canyon, you can see mysterious stone structures that resemble the astrological paths of the stars, the moon and the sun. Within the canyon you can also visit the ancient city of Aztec depicting its captivating history.

But the most interesting of all is the Aztec Alien Trail, which is thought by many UFO enthusiasts as a crash site of UFO spaceships.

The southeastern region is also another great place for UFO buffs to spend their weekend vacation. You can visit Roswell, which is the most famous place for UFO sightings in the twentieth century. Some of its attractions include the Area 51 Museum, which exhibits life-size alien replicas, and the Roswell International UFO Museum & Research Center.

A trip to New Mexico is the perfect way to experience the excitement of the outdoors or just to kick back and relax. But no matter what you choose to do, you’re sure to enjoy doing it more in this state that offers the scenery that will make your getaway experience that much better.
