Freeport is about the same size of Singapore with at least 400 miles of well cared for roads and miles of well engineered waterways, which run alongside private homes. It takes the average worker seven minutes to get to work. The residents also enjoy modern education and health facilities, cable television, many cultural events, wide-ranging leisure facilities, duty-free shopping, and a sophisticated nightlife.

There are a wide variety of international sports available, such as golf, tennis, international squash courts, American football and soccer just to name a few. The subtropical climate of the island creates a natural greenhouse atmosphere. The temperature is usually an average 72 degrees with an average humidity of 75 percent. More than 200 species of birds make a regular stop there and there are 36 different species of birds make their home there. There are several varieties of wild orchids, which can be seen around the area. Because of the existing winds and sensible planning, the air on the Grand Bahamas is clean and the fresh water table is considered capable of accommodating 225,000 people.

On the Island of Grand Bahama when you are looking for things to do you will find:

Fishing: If you like deep-sea fishing, you will be in a fisherman’s heaven. You can fish for marlin, tuna, sailfish are prevalent in the deep water near the island. You can catch grouper, snapper, and yellowtail while on the reefs. You can charter fishing boats or book boat rental at the marina.

Golf: If you are into the game of golf, you are in luck. There are four 18-hole golf championship courses on the island.

National Parks: There are two national parks on the Grand Bahama Island. Seven miles due east of Freeport is Petersons Cay, which is on a small inlet with an unblemished reef and a small beach. The Lucaya National Park is 20 miles east of Freeport. The Lucaya National Park has a wide variety of small eco-systems. You will also see hammocks, caves, blue holes, and a footbridge, which crosses over a natural creek, a small cay and one of the best beaches on the island. The Bahamas National Trust maintains the parks.

While in Freeport you will find plenty to do to keep you as busy as you want to be. Don’t forget about the casino and the nightlife in Freeport.
