Have you ever visited a world famous zoo? Do parasailing and gliding? Or visit a technologically advance science museum complete with IMAX Dome theater and planetarium? If not, then, you can experience all of those fun recreational activities in San Diego, California, a perfect place to have your weekend vacation with either your family or friends.

San Diego is a coastal city located in the Southwestern part of the United States. It is considered as the second largest city in the state and the eighth largest in the country. It is the home to many scenic beaches, a gentle Mediterranean temperature and around 16 military facilities, which includes the United States Coast Guard, the United States Marine Corps and the United States Navy.

This city also offers some of the best tourist spots to spend your weekend vacation. You can experience fun and excitement all at the same time. And adding learning to the adventure, it would really make your stay a worthwhile experience.

Party with the animals

One of San Diego’s attractions is the famous San Diego Zoo. It is located in Balboa Park and is considered as one of the most progressive and largest zoos in the world. The zoo is privately managed by the Zoological Society of San Diego, which is a nonprofit organization. However, the equipment used in the zoo, all of the assets and the ownership of all the animals rests with the City of San Diego. Currently, the zoo takes care of over 800 species of animals coming from different parts of the world.

While inside the zoo, you can go on guided tours by bus that passes through 75% of the park. You can also use an overhead gondola lift that offers an aerial view of the entire zoo.

The zoo also has different exhibits that are designed around a specific habitat and featuring the various animals that can be found in specific types of environment. You can check out exhibits that range from the Artic tundra to an African rainforest. It is also the home of the largest free-flight aviaries with darkened blinds in order to view birds of all sorts. All of the exhibits are naturally built according to what is normally seen in the wild such as open air moats and pools for large mammals.

The zoo also supervised the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park that exhibits animals in a more open and extensive condition that what is seen in a zoo.

San Diego Zoo personnel are very concerned with its animals that they give due actions in the conservation and preservation of many endangered species such as the African Black Rhinos, Pandas and the California Condors. One of their effort is to bred these animals in captivity and release them in their natural habitat.

An action packed adventure

San Diego also offers an action packed adventure for the whole family. You can experience a combined thrill of Parachuting, Ballooning, Gliding and Offshore Powerboat Ride at San Diego Parasailing Adventures.

They also offer the most widely accepted and safest form of parasailing in the world, the Winch Direct Parasailing. This type of parasailing allows you to take off and land on a boat safely, which is different from those done in Mexico and other resorts that take off from beaches and/or floating barges. With this type of adventure, you would surely appreciate the fun and experience of flying.

Visit a state-of-the-art museum

Last in our itinerary is the famous Reuben H. Fleet Science Center & Space Theater, which is also located in Balboa Park. It is a science museum that combines a planetarium with an interactive science exhibit. This museum also has the OMNIMAX, which is an IMAX Dome theater.

The planetarium has a lot of innovative features, which includes a dome that is seventy-six foot in diameter and can be tilted 25 degrees. The audiences are placed in layers of rows that are facing the tilted dome that would give the feeling of being suspended in outer space. It also has a film projection system that allows the planetarium to show movies about space, the planets and the stars.

Aside from the planetarium, the center offers exhibits that can be manipulated or participated by visitors.

These are just some of the attractions being offered by San Diego, California. It is now up to you to choose what type of adventure you’re going to have. Take time to relax because like the old saying goes “Life is not all work and labor; it too has its own share of fun!”
